Fighting High Taxes
Amy Paulin believes taxes in New York State are too high, which is why she has voted time and again to cut them, and will continue to make tax reform her highest priority.
To mitigate high property taxes, Assemblywoman Paulin supports circuit breaker legislation which would limit the amount of residential property taxes an individual pays based on his/her annual income. This program will help residents meet their tax obligations by assisting those whose income has not kept pace with their property taxes.
Additionally, this year Amy secured more than $13 million in Aid to Municipalities (AIM) funding for her district. In a tough economic climate, this figure represents a 4.7% increase over last year, and these additional resources will help these communities deliver essential municipal services without imposing additional burden on the taxpayer.
Amy also fought for a state budget that increases enhanced STAR rebates by 40 percent, which will provide vital property tax relief to seniors throughout the district.
Other tax cuts sponsored or supported by Amy Paulin include:
- A child tax credit of up to $330 per child.
- Increasing the income threshold for senior citizens to qualify for property tax exemptions.
- Providing first time home buyers with a partial property tax exemption.
- Income tax credit for emergency service workers including volunteer fire and ambulance personnel.
- Tax deduction for National Guard members called to active duty.
- Increasing the income threshold for people with disabilities to qualify for property tax exemptions.
