Protecting Our Environment

Amy Paulin voted to provide $255 million in funding for the Environmental Protection Fund – an increase of more than $100 million over the past three years. This fund is an investment in clean water, clean air and the health of our families. In addition, Amy voted for a record increase of $95 million in funding for park’s capital to rebuild and enhance New York’s parks.

Assemblywoman Paulin was also a leader in passing legislation reforming New York’s Brownfield Cleanup Program. This brownfield reform legislation, which is awaiting the governor’s signature, will clean up potentially useful contaminated sites and also generate millions of dollars for the state in critical new tax revenue by encouraging redevelopment at these sites.

Additionally, Amy was influential in the legislature’s approval of measures allowing businesses to sell excess electricity back to the grid and requiring stores to recycle plastic shopping bags.

Amy Paulin has an ambitious environmental agenda for the future which includes continuing to fight for her bills which have passed in the Assembly. These bills will encourage the use of renewable energy by requiring that towns and villages accommodate the use of alternative and renewable energy sources when creating zoning and planning regulations and also ensure that the environmental impacts of building projects do not adversely affect our children.

Amy’s support of key environmental issues has earned special commendation from the Environmental Advocates of New York and the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters.
